The Nature Conservation Trust recently sold two of its largest conservation properties, Rockview and Kewilpa, both located in northern NSW.
Rockview is a 1,954 hectare wilderness property near Inverell that supports significant areas of old growth forest, including the nationally threatened Box Gum Grassy Woodlands. The property is home to hundreds of plant, animal and bird species and vegetation communities. It has spectacular gorges and views from rocky outcrops.
Kewilpa is an iconic 832 hectare property near Casino. The property is a complex of wetlands, forest, waterways, rainforest and coastal cypress supporting numerous vegetation communities, some of which are endangered. It is also home to nearly 200 plant species and a number of threatened fauna species, including an endangered emu population in the NSW North Coast Bioregion. The property is bordered by creeks and large lagoons.
The NCT will continue to manage the properties for the new owner, who has expressed a desire to see the properties used for conservation research and education purposes.
