Do you live in the Clarence or Richmond Valleys and have a natural wetland on your property that you would like to protect forever?
The Nature Conservation Trust is currently searching for landholders who want to protect natural wetlands on their property through a permanent conservation agreement with the organisation.
An assessment process will be used to select properties for the program. This will focus on the type of native vegetation present, the size of the area, and the presence of important plants and animals such as brolga, emus and koalas.
Funding of up to $15,000 will be provided by the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (CMA) to successful applicants for on-ground works such as feral animal and weed control, fencing and improving habitat for wildlife such as ducks and other water birds. The NCT will also provide support to qualifying landholders through its Stewardship Program, offering management advice, information and assistance.
“The wetlands in the lower Clarence and Richmond Valleys are of national importance,” said Rob. “They provide habitat for threatened plants and animals and are a drought refuge for species affected by climate change.”
This program is a joint project between the NCT and the Northern Rivers CMA, supported by the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country initiative.
