A significant number of new threatened species records have been made this month across our Northern NSW properties and programs.
- The endangered Red Fruited Ebony and scheduled Coolamon were found at Chillingham, in the Tweed River Valley. The Coolamon is significant as there are very few remaining trees producing viable seed left in the heavily cleared area. The mature tree located, potentially could provide an important seed source for the area.
- The endangered Endiandra Muelleri subsp. Bracteata and Red Legged-paddymelon were found at Middle Pocket, near Byron Bay. Whilst these species are with the known extent, little is known about their distribution on private lands.
- The vulnerable Eastern Tube-nosed Bat was found at Oxley River, in the Tweed River Valley. Again, whilst this species is within the known extent, little is known about the ecology, distribution and conservation status in New South Wales.
- Several species were recently recorded on our property, Euroka. The Turquoise Parrot and Diamond Firetail were found on the property, and a species of Homoranthus was also identified, however it is yet to be verified. It is noted that the vulnerable Homoranthus Prolixis has been recorded in the adjacent National Park.
- Verification has been received from the North Coast herbarium the Hibbertia Marginata is present on Estuary Creek. This has resulted in a targeted survery for the species on the track prior to planned slashing maintenance.
