How we work

The Nature Conservation Trust (NCT) focuses its efforts on private land conservation to ensure the protection of our State’s biodiversity. Through working with private land owners, using legally binding conservation agreements, the NCT has secured the long-term protection of over 19,000 hectares of high conservation value land.

The work of the Nature Conservation Trust (NCT) is founded on strong partnerships – with passionate rural land owners, governments, agencies and land-care organisations.

The NCT develops such productive partnerships through:

  • buying, improving and selling private rural land with a legally binding conservation agreement attached (known as a conservation covenant);
  • supporting rural land owners to safeguard the natural heritage of their existing properties by applying a conservation covenant;
  • engaging with governments, agencies and groups to expand land conservation on a broader, regional scale; and
  • raising awareness and support in rural communities and Australian boardrooms for the biodiversity conservation work we do.

Collaboration and ongoing support

The NCT believes that collaboration is the key to expanding species protection on private land. Our network criss-crosses the State of NSW and the NCT’s support for private land managers is as enduring as the conservation covenants we advocate.

Tailor-made solutions

The NCT’s conservation strategies are tailored to the unique properties and environments in which we work. They are based on the best available ecological and commercial advice, backed by years of practical experience.

Monitoring Ecology and Wildlife

An ecological assessment maps out all of the vegetation communities and animal or wildlife populations that are found on the rural property. This then feeds into a environmental land management plan.
