Murray River Catchment

In the Murray River catchment, more than 200 hectares of private land, containing threatened grassy woodland ecosystems has been protected with conservation land covenants thanks to Nature Conservation Trust partnerships with private land owners.

The conservation land covenanting program in the Murray River catchment is part of a larger, cross-border partnership with the Trust for Nature Victoria, the Australian National University and a number of Victorian Government departments and agencies that is being funded by the Caring for our Country initiative.

The Murray River catchment land covenanting project protects nationally threatened box-gum grassy woodland, weeping myall woodlands and buloke woodland.

What is a conservation land covenant?

NCT conservation agreements, or land covenants, are just one of many products that the NCT offers private land owners with an interest in biodiversity conservation. If you purchase a piece of rural real estate from the NCT, it will come with a conservation agreement (covenant) attached to the land. If you were to buy a rural property through another vendor, the NCT can help you protect the biodiversity of your land by adding a conservation land covenant to the property.

Once you have entered into a conservation agreement with the NCT we provide ongoing support to private land owners who seek to conserve the natural value of their rural land.
