In the Central West of NSW, the NCT has established two private nature reserves. These protect 843 hectares of high conservation land near Dubbo.
Funded by the Central West Catchment Management Authority, which has implemented an incentive program that focuses on biodiversity conservation in the Central West catchment, these reserves protect box-gum grassy woodlands and five threatened animal and plant species that live within them, including native birds like the glossy black cockatoo and diamond firetail finch.
Additional land conservation agreements are expected to be signed with Central West property owners in the coming year.
What is a conservation land covenant?
NCT conservation agreements, or land covenants, are just one of many products that the NCT offers private land owners with an interest in biodiversity conservation. If you purchase a piece of rural real estate from the NCT, it will come with a conservation agreement (covenant) attached to the land. If you were to buy a rural property through another vendor, the NCT can help you protect the biodiversity of your land by adding a conservation land covenant to the property.
Once you have entered into a conservation agreement with the NCT we provide ongoing support to private land owners who seek to conserve the natural value of their rural land.
