Carwell Station

Carwell Station is a 8,071-hectare working farm near Warren NSW, renowned for its diversity of native grasses. The property also has 1,118 ha of farm land.

Carwell Station is a large 8,071-hectare piece of rural real estate, renowned in the central western NSW grazing region for its diversity of native grasses. The rural property also includes some 1,118 ha of farming country, which complements the rich mix of native perennials. This combination of farm land and native grasslands provides an opportunity to maximise a low-input livestock production model.

Located 65 kilometres north of Warren and 12 km south of the village of Quambone, the Carwell Station farm has traditionally produced wool, sheep meat, beef and cereal crops. Today, the country farm also protects 633 ha of endangered weeping myall open woodland and coolibah-black box woodland and 5,808 ha of native grasslands, little of which is represented within the NSW public reserve system.

When sold, this rural property has the potential to become a significant private nature reserve. As such, it will provide a wildlife sanctuary for three endangered ecological communities and protected habitat for 17 threatened plant and animal species such as the grey-crowned babbler.

The original timber cottage stands testament to a bygone era alongside today’s modern three-bedroom brick homestead. This impressive country property also includes a manager’s residence, jackaroos’ quarters, 13-room shearers’ quarters and kitchen, and numerous other outbuildings, a tennis court and aircraft landing strip.

Additional infrastructure on Carwell Station includes a 10-stand electric shearing shed with excellent sheep-handling facilities, large steel machinery sheds and eight 45-tonne silos.

The Carwell Station rural property is well-watered, with frontages to the Merri Merri and Back creeks. It is also serviced by three free-flowing bores, bore drains and ground tanks. The south-western portion of the property is serviced by a bore that has been capped and is piped to holding tanks and 14 float-guarded concrete troughs.

Carwell Station’s sound agricultural land management has preserved native grasslands that are home to the threatened grey-crowned babbler. This rural property is a prime example of how conservation and sustainable agriculture can exist side by side.
