Central NSW

The Nature Conservation Trust of NSW has a number of impressive properties for sale in the central west, centred on the growing regional hubs of Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo.

Bathurst, the oldest inland settlement in Australia, was the site of the first gold discovery in Australia and today boasts an urban population of almost 29,000. Famed for its Mount Panorama motor racing circuit, the city’s economy is based on education (notably Charles Sturt University) and manufacturing. Many buildings from the gold rush era of the 1800s lend character to its historic heart.

Bathurst is one of the fastest growing regional centres in NSW and has a young population by State standards. Its growth has inspired the construction of new shopping centres and retail precincts, sporting facilities, housing estates, and the expansion of industrial areas.

Known as the city of colour, Orange is a vibrant rural city and the birthplace of poets Banjo Paterson and Kenneth Slessor. Just 280 kilometres west of Sydney, Orange has a population of 39,000 and its fertile surrounds produce beef, lamb, fruits and wine, much of which can be purchased direct from producers.

Orange is rich in local history, has a flourishing cultural scene, boasts beautiful parks and gardens and is surrounded by natural attractions, including Mt Canobolas, Borenore Caves, the Orange Botanic Gardens and Age of Fishes Museum at nearby Canowindra. The Orange Regional Gallery and Orange Civic Theatre are centres of cultural activity.

The thriving regional city of Dubbo is located at the intersection of major routes for road, rail and air transport, and services an area constituting roughly one-third of NSW. The city’s population exceeds 41,000, with a catchment population of more than 120,000.

Dubbo features world-class restaurants, wineries, B&Bs, markets, fashion retailers, parks and facilities. It is home to extensive health, welfare, educational, recreational, cultural and shopping facilities, and the regional offices of various State and Federal government departments. Among is tertiary education institutions are Charles Sturt University, the Dubbo campus of the Western Institute of TAFE and the University of Sydney’s School of Rural Health. It is also the headquarters of the Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) that stretches from Lithgow to Broken Hill.
