In addition to being the facilitator of Slopes to Summit project of the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative, the Nature Conservation Trust commenced a targeted Slopes to Summit Conservation Agreement Program in 2007.
The aim of this program is to contribute to the security of landscape connectivity and threatened species conservation in the Slopes to Summit area, with a particular focus on the Upper Murray/Tumbarumba region.
During the 2007/2008 financial year, we registered six conservation covenants in the Upper Murray/Tumbarumba region and are currently running a second Conservation Agreement Program with funding from the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water.
A further three conservation covenants were registered in the Upper Murray in 2008/2009, protecting more than 170 hectares of land of high conservation value.
The Nature Conservation Trust hopes to extend this program to other areas in the South West Slopes as part of the Slopes to Summit project.
