The NSW Environmental Trust is an independent statutory body established by the NSW Government to support exceptional environmental projects that do not receive funds from the usual Government sources.
Working closely with Catchment Management Authorities and the Rural Assistance Authority, in July 2006 the Nature Conservation Trust commenced delivery of the Australian and NSW Government's $12 million Farmer Exit Assistance Program, funded by the NSW Environmental Trust. The program helped farmers who had experienced financial hardship as a result of the Native Vegetation Act 2003.
Several properties were purchased under this program which has allowed us to make significant gains for conservation and to support the importance of sustainable land management.
