NSW Coalition commits to support the NCT

The NSW Coalition government has demonstrated its strong commitment for private land conservation by announcing that it would provide $3 million in funding to the Nature Conservation Trust over four years.

The announcement was made just prior to the recent NSW Election by Barry O'Farrell, Leader of the NSW Liberals and now Premier of NSW, and Duncan Gay, Leader of the NSW Nationals in the Legislative Council.

NCT CEO Paul Toni said the funding will allow the NCT to fulfil its mission of making the maximum possible contribution to nature conservation on private land in NSW.

"This generous commitment of funding will allow us to protect 50,000 hectares of important habitat for native animals and plants by 2015 and much more in the following years," said Mr Toni.

"Using our efficient revolving fund business model, we intend to develop a strong market for private land conservation in NSW and establish nature conservation as a legitimate business in rural life in NSW.

"The Coalition's announcement acknowledges the significant achievements of the NCT to date and the amazing work done by the landholders who have chosen to protect the natural values of their land with a Nature Conservation Trust Agreement," said Mr Toni.
