Over the last few months, the Nature Conservation Trust has been busy talking to people across NSW. From the Mudgee Small Farm Field Day to Organic Markets across Sydney, NCT staff have been busily spruiking the opportunities and benefits of nature conservation on private land.
In September we had a special event in Sydney. The first property seminar on private land conservation was a huge success with over 35 people in attendance. With conservation property owner, Roger Clarke, as guest speaker and a panel of experts, including Richard Hughes (Tax accountant), Snow Manners (Valuer), Jim Prosser-Fenn (Solicitor) and Matt Herring (Ecologist) who answered questions on a range of topics from what might be tax deductible to how to protect specific endangered animal species and whether a rural conservation property might form a plank of a self managed super fund!
It was a robust and fascinating evening and Roger's key note address on his temperate grassland property, Bunhybee Grasslands near Braidwood just outside of Canberra was an amazing walk through some of our most endangered native plants. Roger and his partner, Linda have been successful, recently, in securing rate relief from their local council further endorsing the wonderful example these private land conservation reserve managers are setting for their neighbours and their community.
