Natural environments of high conservation value can be found all across the State of NSW, most of them on privately owned land. Unfortunately, many of these rural properties are prime habitat for endangered plant and animal species and are not being managed in a way that will ensure their precious biodiversity is protected.
It is a fact that many endangered animal species are found on private land. We cannot rely on national parks and public reserves, alone, to protect the habitat of threatened animal and plant species.
The NCT gives preference to those properties that contain vegetation communities and ecosystems that are poorly represented at a sub-regional level in existing public reserves, or that have a high national, State or regional conservation priority, and that are in good condition and likely to benefit from land covenanting and ongoing land management for conservation.
